Wrinkles Around the Eyes

As you age, your skin undergoes a lot of changes, especially the delicate skin around the eyes. That’s why one of the earliest signs of aging is fine lines around the eyes, also known as Crow’s feet. In fact, this is usually the first place wrinkles start to show on your face.

What are ‘Crow’s Feet’?

Crow’s feet or laugh lines refer to the wrinkles that extend from the outer corners of your eyes. These wrinkles are commonly referred to as ‘Crow’s feet’ because of their close resemblance to the footprint of a crow. They typically start small and then slowly getting more noticeable as we age.

Does smiling cause Crow’s Feet?

The answer to this very popular question is yes. Repetitive facial expressions that occur when we are smiling or laughing contract the delicate skin around the eyes and can cause crow’s feet to appear over time.

At what age do Crows Feet start to appear?

The largest contributing factor to crow’s feet is ageing. When we get older, the body slows down its production of collagen and elastin, making it more prone to wrinkles. This means almost everyone will develop crow’s feet at one stage in their life. That said, some people notice them earlier in their lives than others.

The skin around the eyes is very delicate, and as a result, crow’s feet can occur at any age, including in younger adults in their mid-20s. Also, certain lifestyle activities such as excessive smoking or simply a poor skincare routine can mean that fine lines around the eyes start to appear sooner. For example, excessive squinting due to exposure to sunlight or smoking encourages wrinkles around the eyes to develop at an earlier stage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Crows Feet reversible?

If you’ve already started to notice the appearance of crow’s feet and other wrinkles around your eyes, don’t despair, we’ve got a highly effective treatment that can soften them or get rid of them all together! With our Botox® treatment, we can tighten and smooth out your Crow’s Feet—creating a smooth and flawless effect.

How does Botox get rid of Crow’s Feet?

Botox® (Botulinum Toxin) is an effective non-surgical solution for smoothening out wrinkles and fine lines. In the case of Crow’s Feet, it is injected in the area around the corners of your eyes where the wrinkles sit. It’s important to point out that Botox will not stop you from making facial expressions. Instead, it works by temporarily reducing the activity of muscles around the eyes that contract during repetitive facial expressions. By stopping the contraction, the creases and wrinkles disappear.

How long does the Botox treatment last?

Botox is a very effective and safe treatment option for Crow’s Feet. That said, the results typically last for 3 and 6 months, but it may last longer depending on your skin’s natural genetic make-up.

Will I experience any downtime after treating my Crow's Feet with Botox?

You will be able to get back to your normal activities straight away after your treatment. Light exercise can be performed after 4 hours, but strenous acivities should be avoided for 24 hours after your injections.

Can Botox Treatment Cause Puffy Eyes?

Some botox patients notice swelling around their eyes after treatments, this is often due to hiring an inexperienced injector.
When too much of the botulinum toxin is injected into the muscles, it can cause fat pads around the eye to swell and give a puffy appearance.

At Dr Aesthetica all of our botox treatments are applied by medical professionals with the correct amount tailored to your individual anatomy and requirements.

What else do I need to know?

An average appointment for this treatment usually lasts around 30 minutes. This is a quick walk-in walk-out procedure and you can get back to work or your normal routine immediately afterward. Also, expect to start seeing a reduction in the appearance of the Crow’s feet in a week’s time with optimal results can usually be seen in 2 weeks from the day of the treatment.

Also, it’s worth noting that treatment for Crow’s Feet is generally pain-free, although of course, there is an option of using a numbing cream. The common side effects are bruising, swelling, and bleeding, but these tend to be very rare.
