What are Crow's Feet and How Do I Get Rid of Them?

Last Modified: July 30, 2022

It's probably safe to say that most people want to look their best. Ageing is something that happens to us all, but there are certain things that tend to make us look older than we want to.

Crow's feet are wrinkles at the corners of the eyes that are most prominent when a person laughs or frowns. They become increasingly noticeable as a person ages, and thus these wrinkles often make many people feel very self-conscious.

Let's take a look at what causes these undesirable wrinkles, as well as a few ways you can get rid of them.

What are Crow's Feet and How Do I Get Rid of Them?

There's something about those lines that form at the edges of our eyes. Even as they accent our smiles and laughter, they make us look and feel old. Learn what causes crow's feet and find out what you can do to diminish them.

Top 4 Causes

1. Solar Radiation

The simple truth is that the sun is not your skin's friend. In fact, few things are worse for your skin than sun exposure. Ultraviolet radiation not only damages the top-most layer of skin but also penetrates down to the dermal layer. Even if you don't notice sunburn, the consequences can include UV damage, fine wrinkles, and loss of elasticity.

2. Poor Nutrition

Maintaining healthy skin requires essential nutrients. Not only should your diet include fresh vegetables, meat, fruits, and unprocessed grains, you should also try to avoid sugar and alcohol.

3. Pollution

Keep in mind that your skin can be a direct reflection of your environment. Without proper protection from dust, heat, extreme cold, and sun radiation, your skin will suffer, causing you to age prematurely.

4. Dehydration

As with the rest of your body, your skin requires sufficient hydration in order to remain healthy and vibrant. When you don't consume enough fluids, you risk dehydration, which takes a serious toll on your skin's health and also slows the cell regeneration process.

Home Remedies for Getting Rid of Crow's Feet

Fortunately, all hope is not lost! Depending on the amount of damage your skin has already incurred, there are some things you can try at home to heal your skin and improve your appearance.

Green Tea Face Wash

Green tea is well known for its antioxidant properties. When applied to the skin, it can help reduce oxidative damage. We recommend washing your face with cold green tea, placing cotton balls dipped in tea on and around your eyes.

This is not only an effective anti-aging skin treatment, but is also surprisingly soothing.

Cucumber

Cucumbers are rich in a number of nutrients that are great for your skin, including iron, calcium, magnesium, and Vitamins A and C.

This treatment requires crushing or grating a piece of cucumber to extract the juice, then dipping cotton balls into the juice and placing them on the crow's feet for a few minutes. Repeat a few times a day for several weeks and you'll be amazed at the results.

Avocado

It's no secret that avocado is oil-rich and wonderful for maintaining soft, youthful skin. Its pulp contains fats that moisturize, and it also helps the skin to absorb essential vitamins and minerals.

Simply whip up the flesh of the avocado and apply it to your face for around half an hour.

Yogurt

Yogurt contains lactic acid that is great for exfoliating your skin. Mix a tablespoon of yogurt with a tablespoon of honey, apply it to your face, then wash it off with warm water after about ten minutes. Your face will feel refreshed and incredibly smooth.

Coconut Oil

Massaging warm coconut oil into your face at night will nourish and moisturize your skin. It contains medium-chain fatty acids that have tremendous antioxidant and antimicrobial properties that help your skin to absorb important nutrients.

Egg White Face Mask

Believe it or not, egg whites can tighten your skin, helping to make it feel smoother and reduce wrinkles. Egg white is rich in magnesium, a mineral essential for healthy skin.

To treat your skin, beat an egg white until frothy, and apply to your face. Let the mask set for 15 minutes, then wash away with warm, soapy water.

Whole Milk Compress

Milk is another common item you likely already have in your refrigerator that is surprisingly great for your skin. It's packed full of healthy goodness, including proline, which plays a key role in promoting collagen stability.

Milk fats are a natural moisturizer and help maintain soft skin. Raw milk is one of the best facial treatments available.

To apply, simply dip a washcloth in whole milk and place it over your eyes and the sides of your face. This treatment is so simple yet effective that we recommend making it a regular part of your morning routine.

Lemon Juice

This home remedy is perfect for when you're in a hurry and don't have time for a more elaborate skin care routine. Simply slice a lemon into halves and rub around the outside of your eyes where wrinkles have formed.

The citric acid in lemon juice encourages skin regeneration and makes a good exfoliate. Lemon juice also contains Vitamin C, which promotes collagen development.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera has long been known for its skin benefits. The pulp from its leaves is a tremendous moisturizer for treating everything from minor burns to dry skin. This clear pulp is full of amazing natural healing agents and is also effective at removing wrinkles and fine lines.

Rolling Back the Clock

It's hard to imagine going through life without smiling or frowning. After all, our faces are expressive! Unfortunately, as we age, our skin naturally loses its elasticity, and crow's feet begin to appear.

The good news is that there are simple ways to roll back the clock and help reverse the signs of ageing. These home remedy treatments aren't a permanent solution, but used consistently they can definitely help reduce laugh lines and the wrinkles around eyes disappear.

If you're looking for an intervention, botox can be used on crows feet to smooth the appearance of dynamic wrinkles around the eyes.
