Botox for Neck Bands: How Botox Can Give You the Neck and Jawline You Always Wanted

Last Modified: August 1, 2024

Botox has been around for a while now. Chances are, you already know a little bit about what this super-versatile procedure can accomplish. From wrinkle-smoothing, to facial lifts and tightening, Botox can basically do it all!

But what about those stubborn neck bands? That "turkey neck"? Can Botox take care of those? Can Botox tighten the jawline?

Well, actually, it can!

If you're someone who's struggled with the appearance of your neck and jawline, a little tune-up with nonsurgical Botox injections could be just the thing you need!

Keep reading for more info on Botox for neck bands, including the administration of injections, and risks associated with the procedure.

How Does Botox Work?

Botox is a nonsurgical treatment delivered through injection. Though there are many brands and variants of Botox serums, each version is made up of an injectable substance that's derived from certain human-friendly, purified bacteria.

Botox, when injected, blocks the nerves' signals to their body's muscles, forcing the muscles to become largely unable to contract.

Botox can be used effectively to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, to provide different areas with a visual lift, and to soften and tighten other areas of the body.

Botox is administered to thousands of individuals every year; it can provide a natural-looking remedy to the areas of the face and neck that receive the most complaints! Most cosmetic doctors are well-versed in the administration of Botox, and the procedure is overall low-risk.

What's A Nefertiti Lift?

But what if your problem-areas are your neck bands and jawline? Can Botox help you then? Absolutely!

Named for Egyptian Queen Nefertiti who was noted for her striking and elegant jawline, the Nefertiti Lift is just the procedure you need if you're hoping for a more-shapely jaw and neck without undergoing the knife.

In the grand scheme of Botox, the Nefertiti Lift is a relatively new procedure, as it only became common in the early 2000s. For many patients. the Neferti Lift is the perfect short-term solution to a soft jawline and unsightly neck bands. Later in life, more intensive intervention may be required to achieve remedies for sagging necks and soft jaws.

The Nefertiti Lift can serve as a sort of "mini-lift" for your neck and jaw. It can reduce the appearance of neck bands and sagging neck skin. It'll give your neck and jaw area a tighter, more youthful experience--all courtesy of a little needle!

How Does a Nefertiti Lift Work?

As with other Botox procedures, the Nefertiti Lift is administered through a series of injections. In the Nefertiti Lift, injections are made along the jaw, and up and down the neck.

The Nefertiti Lift can take anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes to administer, during which the injections target the neck's platysma muscles. These muscles are the culprit behind much of the face's downward sagging, so the Botox injections serve to intervene and stunt the muscles' connection to the nerves, lessening the platysma muscles' ability to cause the jaw and face to slump.

By relaxing the platysma muscles through these injections, the skin becomes tighter, smoother, and lifted.

What Will My Results Be Like?

Initially, your most notable results might include some swelling and bruising at the site of injection. After a couple of days, you'll begin to see the swelling and bruising diminish, and the true results surface.

After a week or two, the full impact of your procedure will become visible. You should notice a tighter, more youthful surface, and the appearance of things like neck bands, wrinkles, and slouching of the neck and jawline should be significantly reduced.

These effects will last anywhere from 3 to 4 months, so to retain your more-youthful appearance, you'll want to re-up your Nefertiti Lift at least 3 times every year.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Nefertiti Lift?

The best candidates for the Nefertiti Lift are those who feel a prolonged insecurity in the appearance of their jaw and neck. You should have your cosmetic surgeon evaluate the area you're hoping to improve, and really listen to their opinion as to whether or not you'll make a good candidate for the Nefertiti Lift.

As a rule, candidates who will benefit most from Botox, especially in the neck and jaw, are those who are consistently at a thin or normal weight; there should be no fat along the jawline, as Botox is not intended to deal with fatty areas. Candidates with loose and folded skin along the jawline, those with neck bands, and others with a rippled, loose appearance in these areas are the best candidates for this lift.

For some patients, the results of this treatment will be naturally more subtle. This should be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, so be sure you're very clear with your doctor on your expectations--it's perhaps even more important that you listen to your doctor's opinion and take their advice to heart.

Are There Any Risks to a Nefertiti Lift?

In all, Botox procedures are relatively low-risk. However, the injections do come with some natural risks that need to be taken seriously, as well as after-care instructions that must be followed with great precision.

Take care to choose a practised, well-reviewed surgeon. If administered poorly, the Botox could spread to unintended areas and lead to issues including difficulty breathing and swallowing, slurred speech, and prolonged muscle weakness.

On a more basic and common level, the time following your procedure could lead to symptoms like facial swelling, headache, nausea, or flu-like sickness.

To ensure that your post-operation risk remains low, take the time and care necessary to follow your surgeon's after-care instructions to a T.

For many candidates, Botox may be just the cure they're looking for to quell unsightly jawlines, necks, and jowls.
