Why are dermal fillers Dissolved?
Hyaluronic acid naturally occurs in our body and helps to keep our skin soft and our joints fluid. Hyaluronic acid—produced from plant & animal sources— is also the main constituent of many commonly used dermal fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane. Dermal fillers have many cosmetic benefits, but sometimes, the filler needs to be removed from the body. Often patients will come to us from other places seeking dissolving of previous work. For example, if the filler has been inserted incorrectly, excessively, or unevenly resulting in tiny lumps and large nodules in severe cases. Dissolving of lip fillers and Jawline fillers is very common here at Dr. Aesthetica.
Hyaluronidase: Dissolving Dermal Fillers
Hyaluronidase offers a safe and effective method of dissolving unwanted dermal filler. This treatment is quick-acting and expects good results within a few days. That’s said, it’s important to only work with an experienced cosmetic doctor who knows how to correctly determine the right amount of hyaluronidase to inject for optimal results.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does Hyaluronidase work?
Hyaluronidase is a protein enzyme whose primary role is to break down hyaluronic acid in the body. Left alone, dermal fillers are generally metabolised by the body very slowly. But sometimes, you need a quick fix and Hyaluronidase can be injected into an area previously injected with hyaluronic acid dermal fillers to dissolve this filler. It’s quick-acting and starts breaks down and soften the filler within minutes. That said, expect final results after 24-48 hours after the swelling associated with hyaluronidase injections settles.
How much does it cost to dissolve fillers?
The cost of the treatment can vary and is dependent on the area and the symptoms. Typically, one course of treatment is all that is needed to correct an area. However, you may need a second round if a lot of Hyaluronic Acid (Dermal Fillers) was injected initially. In rare situations, it may require multiple sessions of Hyaluronidase to dissolve the filler. Prices start from £200 and are calculated by the number of areas that need hyaluronidase injections and the volume required.
Risks Involved with using Hyaluronidase
Before a hyaluronidase injection treatment, our doctor will go through a consultation to ensure that this is the right procedure for you. There have been reported cases of localised allergic reactions to Hyaluronidase, so this is something to watch out for. That’s why this procedure is not recommended for patients with a history of allergy to bee venom. It is also important to note that Hyaluronidase does not distinguish between real Hyaluronic Acid produced in our body or synthetic Hyaluronic Acid (Dermal Fillers). This means there’s a possibility you might lose more volume in the area than expected. Slight bruising can be expected with Hyaluronidase (as with any injections), though this is usually minimal and can be covered with make-up.
What else do I need to know?
It is normally advised that you wait 2 weeks before having any Dermal Fillers dissolved. This allows any bruising and/or swelling to go down from the initial treatment. This dissolving filler method doesn’t work for dermal fillers such as Bellafill, Radiesse, or Sculptra since they are not made with Hyaluronic acid. Here at Dr. Aesthetica, we have Hyaluronidase on hand during dermal filler treatments. In case of any adverse outcomes, we can quickly dissolve the filler.
