What is dry skin?

Dry skin is when the skin cannot retain the sufficient moisture it needs.  Symptoms of dry skin are inflammation, itching, cracked, flaky or red skin.

What are the different types of dry skin?

Dry skin can affect any part of the body. It can occur for a number of reasons, such as a skin condition, changes in weather or diet, medication, and changes in product use.  In rare cases, it could be a mild allergic reaction or eczema, though our Skincare Specialists can help in the meantime.  If left untreated, the skin may result in irritation, inflammation and skin infections.

How do I take care of my skin?  How do I prevent dry skin?

It is a good idea to avoid hot showers/baths as this dries the skin further.  Remember to pat dry and not rub the skin when drying.

Depending on the area, a good hydrating serum or moisturiser can help.  Staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water can also help ease dryness.

For dry skin, it is always best to avoid products that contain fragrance, alcohol, parabens or sulphates as this can dry the skin out further, causing irritation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I keep my skin hydrated and moisturised?

AlumierMD has a fantastic range of products, each of which can be customised to your skin type. These products are rich in consistency and contain key active ingredients that are free from parabens, sulphates, phthalates, petrolatum, artificial fragrances and dyes.

What do you recommend I do for Dry skin?

There are lots of different ways to help improve Dry skin though it helps to determine the cause first.

You can use these basic steps to help:

  1. Restore the moisture barrier by repairing skin cell turnover,
  2. Enhance moisture levels,
  3. Protect against UV rays.

How can I help my Dry skin?

Skin Peels are an effective way to help restore hydration and maximise on moisture within the skin layers. Each Peel is hyper customised to how your skin presents on the day of the Peel.

What else do I need to know?

There is very little downtime with Skin Peels, though this will be discussed with you. An aftercare kit is given post treatment which is to be used as instructed.

What’s the difference between Dry skin and Rosacea?

Dry Skin can be alleviated whereas Rosacea can be chronic.  With Rosacea sufferers, the hydrolipidic barrier is impaired.  However, chronic dry skin can lead to an impacted barrier which can then develop in to Rosacea.
