What is Jawline Slimming?

Jawline slimming is a non-surgical treatment used to reduce the width of an overly square jawline and instead give the patient a slimmer, more attractive, and youthful jawline feature. This treatment is especially popular among women who often associate a strong square-shaped jawline with masculinity. Many of our patients have complained that it made their face appear harsh and added years to their age.

What causes the jawline to be wide and square-shaped?

Place your fingers on your jaw and clench your teeth. The muscle that you can feel tightening as you clench your teeth is your masseter muscle. Also known as the ‘chewing muscle,’ it can enlarge over time resulting in a broad square-shaped jawline. A large and more pronounced masseter muscle is often attributed to teeth clenching. This is because many people clench their teeth a lot when they are stressed, worried, or even when sleeping. Bruxism can also increase the size of the chewing muscles.

Jawline Slimming Frequently Asked Questions

How does the jaw slimming treatment work?

This specialist non-surgical treatment is carried out using anti-wrinkle injections (Botox) to weaken the masseter muscle and reduce the muscle size over time. It really does exactly what it says—thins your jawline to give you a slimmer looking face.

To better understand how this works, imagine you have been lifting weights for a while, then you stop for a few months. There is a very high likelihood you will lose some muscle mass. The jaw slimming treatment works in a very similar way. What Botox does is relax the masseter muscles for, typically, 3-4 months. When relaxed this facial muscle becomes less active and just like any other muscle in your body, it’s bound to reduce in size.

However, this a gradual procedure. After your treatment, results can start being seen from the second week, but optimal results will be visible after 6-8 weeks. Once the treatment has been completed, you will find that the angle of your jaw will relax changing from a strong squares shaped jawline to a more feminine looking oval or heart-shaped face. Botox wears off after a while, so the treatment needs to be repeated every 3-6 months.

Is Jawline slimming with Botox safe?

This procedure is non-surgical, which means you won’t have to undergo any expensive and risky jawline surgery. The treatment causes no swelling or pain, which means there’s no downtime. Also, it won’t affect your ability to chew or talk.

The jawline slimming with Botox treatment is a very safe procedure that doesn’t have any major side effects. The injections are done with a very fine needle so no anesthesia will be needed.

Other beneficial applications of the jawline slimming treatment

Jowls

Not many areas of the body show a person’s age more than the lower face. Ageing can cause the chin and jawline to sag from loosening skin around the mouth and cheeks. This excess droopy skin that collects along the lower part of the face (specifically along the jawline and below the cheeks) is referred to as Jowls.

Treating Jowls Using Jawline Slimming Botox Treatment

Dermal fillers are injected into the skin’s soft tissue to restore lost volume or fill in lines and wrinkles. The jawline slimming with Botox can also be combined with Dermal Fillers to treat these jowl symptoms.

Bruxism treatments

Jawline slimming is also perfect for those that suffer from Bruxism and can relieve the pain symptoms.
Bruxism is a painful condition that affects many people and is often untreated. Most people probably grind and clench their teeth from time to time. But when teeth grinding and clenching are occurring regularly, they can damage the teeth and cause a myriad of unwanted symptoms. People suffering from this condition are often unaware of its existence because the teeth grinding usually occurs at night when they are asleep.
Often treatments can include using mouth guards or mouth splints. But these are very expensive, with specialist mouth guards often costing several hundred pounds. Unfortunately, these don’t actually treat the problem and only delay the inevitable while often leading to poor quality of life.

Here at Dr. Aesthetica, we suggest using Botox to treat Bruxism. Patients often report a significant improvement of symptoms within a week and report having the “best sleep in ages.”
