3 Proven Ways to Eliminate Skin Blemishes

Last Modified: May 5, 2023

Skin blemishes are a common ailment amount Britons both young and old. In fact, the majority have suffered or are suffering from some type of skin condition at least once in their lives. This might include face spots, acne, eczema, or any other number of ailments.

So what can you do to encourage clear skin and keep blemishes at bay?

The solutions are somewhat simple, but if practised with consistency, can go a long way in banishing blemishes long-term.

Here are 3 proven ways to eliminate skin blemishes on your face.

1. Keep Skin Blemishes at Bay With Regular Exfoliating

One of the most effective habits you can adopt to keep skin blemishes away is regular exfoliation.

Exfoliating with an antibacterial facial scrub can keep your skin clear and clean. Exfoliating every week will help your skin shed old cells and allows new, fresh skin cells to take their place.

Just be sure to discuss your exfoliating habits with your dermatologist to make sure you aren't overdoing it.

Some scrubs and cleansers have acidic tendencies which can be great for your skin but shouldn't be used more than a couple times a week.

2. Get the Sleep and Hydration Your Skin Needs

A lack of sleep can make your skin more susceptible to skin blemishes, especially if you're experiencing a lot of stress as well. In order for your skin to heal itself and stay looking bright and clear, good sleeping habits are essential.

Make sure you sleep on a clean pillowcase each night and wash off your makeup from the day before hitting the sack.

Proper hydration is also a must. There's no doubt that plenty of water can do wonders for blemish-prone skin. The NHS still backs up the suggestion that at least a litre of water a day is needed to stay hydrated, and staying hydrated is crucial for healthy skin.

3. Stick With Your Dermatologist's Recommendations

If you have blemished skin and want to see it clear up, one of the most important things you can do is be consistent with the skincare routine that your doctor has given you. This includes regularly using prescribed medications and cleansers.

If your dermatologist advises you to avoid the sun, certain cosmetics, or other habits that might be making your blemishes worst, it's best to heed the advice.

There are many over the counter products available that claim to alleviate blemishes and or treat skin conditions. And while many of them can be helpful, not every product is suited for every skin type.

Skin that is prone to blemishes can be especially sensitive. Your dermatologist can make recommendations for skincare that are best suited to your individual needs. With your dermatologist's help, you can enjoy blemish-free skin.
