Microneedling is a rising trend in the beauty world: this market, which is currently valued at $32 million, is predicted to reach $56million by 2025.
During this skin treatment, a professional uses small stainless-steel needles to gently puncture your skin. This causes new skin tissue to grow and replace damaged skin.
The process can have many benefits, but you're not exactly done once your appointment finishes. As is the case with most beauty procedures, there are some guidelines you should follow post-treatment.
Keep reading and discover five essential (and easy) microneedling aftercare tips!
1. Moisturise
After microneedling, you might notice that your skin feels drier than usual, which is why keeping it hydrated is extra important.
One thing to keep in mind is that, after this procedure, there are ingredients to look for and others to avoid. When you buy a new moisturiser, go for a chemical-free one with hyaluronic acid and vitamin C, and stay away from any active ingredients.
2. Go Make-Up Free
During the 24 to 72 hours after your treatment, stay away from any make-up. This way, you give your skin some time to rest and prevent skin irritations that could happen if you used a dirty makeup brush or sponge.
If you're used to wearing makeup to work, simply get your microneedling done on a Friday and go natural for the weekend!
3. Avoid Direct Sunlight
Direct sunlight is a major contributor to premature signs of ageing. As you can imagine, after you undergo a treatment that will make your skin look healthy and young, it's a bit counterproductive to go sunbathe.
For this reason, it can be a good idea to get this treatment done in winter, as the sun isn't as strong.
Either way, no matter which season it is, make sure you apply your SPF!
4. Avoid Intense Workouts
Doing intense exercises will cause you to sweat and that's a no-no during the week after your microneedling session for one reason only: it'll make it harder for your skin to heal properly.
If you don't want to go that long without moving your body, you can go on walks at sunset, as it likely won't make you sweat.
5. Avoid Other Facial Treatments
Finally, for one month, don't undergo any other facial treatments.
Even if you want to improve other aspects of your skin, it's crucial that it has proper time to recover fully before you schedule your next appointment. Otherwise, in the end, you probably won't see the results you were hoping for!
Microneedling Aftercare for Optimal Results
Although microneedling is minimally invasive and mostly painless, it's still an unusual experience for your skin.
As such, and as we mentioned before, you need to give it time to recover.
Only by following all the proper microneedling aftercare tips can you ensure that the final results will be great. And as you can see, doing so doesn't require that much time or work!
