What is Turkey Neck?
Turkey neck refers to visible signs of ageing on the neck, such as wrinkles and sagging. This occurs due to ageing, as skin loses firmness and muscles weaken.
For example, you may notice vertical “bands” or “cords” on your neck. These are platysmal bands, or areas of the platysma muscle (a muscle layer in the neck and lower face) that have thickened and become lax over time. Natural ageing causes the platysma to weaken, leading to turkey neck and platysmal bands.
Turkey neck can also occur from UV damage and poor posture (such as “tech neck”). As skin on the neck is thinner than facial skin, the neck is more susceptible to signs of ageing. This can result in the neck looking “older” than the face, leading to a “mismatch” in appearance.
How to Get Rid of Turkey Neck

Turkey Neck Treatment
Turkey neck can be treated in several ways. These treatments reduce lines, wrinkles, sagging, and can improve the silhouette of your neck and define your jawline.
With neck Botox, we utilise strategically placed, Botox injections to target deep wrinkles, sagging skin, and platysmal bands (neck “cords,” or areas of vertically raised flesh.) Botox contains botulinum toxin and is an MHRA-licensed prescription medicine.
Neck Botox involves minimal downtime, and typically presents little to no pain, as we use fine needles to administer Botox. With neck Botox, the results are smoother, tighter-looking skin that gives the neck a lifted appearance.
We also offer Sunekos treatment, a natural and non-surgical treatment that utilises hyaluronic acid and amino acids, to stimulate collagen production. Sunekos treatment enhances hydration and skin firmness, while smoothing wrinkles. The results are a tighter, more youthful neck. Sunekos is a CE-marked medical device regulated for professional use in the UK.
Before you undergo any of our treatments, we always begin with a personalised consultation. This consultation allows us to understand your needs and concerns, and answer any questions you may have, so we can tailor our treatments to you.
Botox Key Active Ingredients and Possible Side Effects
Botulinum toxin type A, derived from Clostridium botulinum bacterium, is the active ingredient in Botox. Botox injections use a refined, purified version of botulinum toxin type A to relax muscle hyperactivity. Common side effects from Botox injections include:
- mild redness
- swelling
- bruising
- tenderness at injection sites
These symptoms usually resolve within a few days. Note that symptoms can vary per patient.
Sunekos Key Active Ingredients and Side Effects
Sunekos contains the following active ingredients:
- Hyaluronic acid: a naturally occurring substance that adds moisture and volume to your skin. Unlike dermal fillers, Sunekos’ hyaluronic acid is not cross-linked with chemical agents. This makes Sunekos an ideal alternative to traditional fillers.
- Amino acid complex (HY6AA Formula): a powerful patented blend of six amino acids (specifically alanine, glycine, leucine, lysine, proline, and valine).
Common side effects of Sunekos include:
- swelling
- redness
- bruising
- papules
- tenderness at injections sites
These symptoms usually resolve within a few hours or a few days. Note that symptoms can vary per patient. Because the treatment is bio-compatible, allergic reactions are very rare.
Tech Neck and Turkey Neck
Do you notice that your neck feels stiff or achy after looking down at your mobile phone? Many of our patients inform us that prolonged periods of screen time lead to chronic neck pain.
While ageing is the main component of turkey neck, “tech neck” also contributes to wrinkles and sagging skin in the neck. “Tech neck” refers to poor posture that results from constantly looking downwards at mobile devices.
For example, the daily habit of scrolling on your mobile phone can cause neck tightness, which affects the skin and muscles of the neck. The human head weighs around 5 kilograms, or the weight of a bowling ball. The more your head tilts forward, the greater the amount of pressure on your neck. For example, when your head is bent forward at a 45-degree angle, the force on your neck is approximately 22 kilograms.
Factor in desk work (sitting and looking at a computer screen), and it’s no surprise tech neck is an issue, with many individuals noting the signs of premature ageing on their neck.
The good news? Dr Aesthetica’s treatments improve the appearance of your neck, whether you have smaller wrinkles or the more visible signs of turkey neck. And as Botox reduces tension in muscle, neck Botox is a proven method to address chronic neck pain associated with tech neck.
Turkey Neck Exercises
For fast, visible, and reliable results, try Dr Aesthetica’s treatments.
Strengthen Neck Muscles
In the meantime, before and in between treatments, you can utilise neck exercises at home to reduce the appearance of turkey neck, resulting from ageing or tech neck. These exercises are best for strengthening and toning neck muscles, such as the platysma muscle, and may help alleviate any neck tension you experience.
*Of note: With any of these exercises, start gently and breathe throughout each stretch. You should only feel slight tension, never pain. To start, repeat each exercise 8-10 times, 2-3 times a day. Stop if you experience any pain.
Side Neck Stretch
Side neck stretches can alleviate tension and improve circulation. To stretch the side of your neck:
- Sit or stand with your back straight
- Gently tilt your neck toward one shoulder. Hold for 10 seconds
- Return to starting position and repeat on other side
Chin Tucks
Forward head posture can cause sagging skin on the neck. Chin tucks help improve neck posture and strengthen neck muscles. To do chin tucks:
- Sit or stand while relaxed and shoulders down
- Gently draw your chin straight back. Do not tilt your head
- Hold for 5-6 seconds
- Release and return to original position
Neck Rotation
Neck rotations improve neck flexibility and reduce tension. To rotate the neck:
- Sit up tall in a chair
- Turn your head to one side and look over as far over your shoulder as you can, without pain. Hold for 10 seconds
- Slowly return to neutral position
- Repeat stretch on opposite side
Jaw Stretch
This exercise stretches the front of the neck, to increase jawline definition. To do the jaw stretch:
- Stand or sit with a straight spine
- Gently tilt your neck back to look upwards
- Jut your jaw forward to feel a stretch under the chin and neck. Hold 5-10 seconds.
- Slowly return to starting position
Neck Lift Cost in the UK
At Dr Aesthetica, our average price for neck lift with Botox is £350. The amount of Botox used varies, depending on your needs and the desired outcome. During consultation we provide an individualized estimate.
Dealing with Neck Lines?
As we age, our bodies lose collagen, leading to sagging skin and wrinkles. Even if your neck and jawline are taut, you may still experience neck lines and uneven texture running up and down, and across, the neck.
Types of Neck Lines
Horizontal wrinkles: also known as “necklace lines,” horizontal wrinkles run across the throat. These occur due to natural ageing, genetics, and tech neck.
Platysmal bands: bands or “neck cords” that run up and down the neck, on either side of the throat. These occur due to natural ageing, genetics, as well tension in the neck resulting from poor posture.
Neck Botox For A Youthful Look
Just as Botox is used to effectively address facial concerns, Botox can be applied to the neck as well. Before you receive a neck Botox treatment, Dr Aesthetica will provide a consultation, to best understand your needs and desired results.
Who Can Benefit From Neck Botox?
If you deal with:
- neck wrinkles
- sagging
- dry, hollow-looking skin
- chin dimples
- lack of defined jaw
Strategically placed Botox can effectively address these problem areas.
Neck Botox For Pain Relief
Botox provides more than aesthetic results. By relaxing the muscles, Botox can also alleviate pain and tension. Botox is a proven method to ease pain from:
- bruxism (teeth grinding)
- neck tension
Minimal Down Time and Lasting Results
During the treatment, Botox typically presents little to no pain. After the procedure, you can resume your daily activities. Minor side effects are bruising or redness at the injection site, but these usually clear up in a few days.
Results can last up to 6 months, with the average being 3 to 4 months. With repeated treatments, you can maintain rejuvenating results that also provide pain relief for neck or jaw tension.
How to Get Rid of Neck Lines
For professional and fast results, Dr Aesthetica’s treatments, such as neck Botox, best address neck lines and turkey neck. In between appointments, you can maintain your results by:
- Wearing sunblock: neck skin is thinner and more delicate than other areas of the body, leading to premature ageing.
- Incorporating neck stretches: lean your head side to side and gently stretch your neck, daily.
- Be aware of your posture: poor posture can weaken the platysmal muscle, a thin, broad muscle that extends from your chest and shoulders and up into your lower face. Stand up straight as you can and look forward.
- Be aware of scroll time: looking downwards at your phone, multiple times a day, strains the neck over time, leading to signs of neck ageing.
- Use a moisturizer: apply firming moisturizer, such as hyaluronic acid or retinol, to your neck.
- Stay hydrated: drinking water throughout the day can refresh dry skin.
Nefertiti Neck Lift
A minimally invasive but highly effective procedure, a Nefertiti Neck Lift utilises Botox injections in the lower part of your face and neck. The results are visibly rejuvenated skin for a lifted look. Also known as the “Nefertiti lift,” this treatment derives its name from ancient Egyptian Queen Nefertiti, known for her elegant, smooth, and slender neck.
Nefertiti Neck Lift Before and After
With this treatment, you can expect visibly reduced lines, reduced platysmal bands (neck “cords,” or areas of raised muscle), and an overall lifted and youthful appearance of the neck. Your jawline will also look more defined, as Botox injections inhibit muscle contractions of the neck and lower face.
