Wrinkles at 30? Don't Freak Out! How Facial Injections Can Prevent Signs of Ageing

Last Modified: July 30, 2022

Did you recently turn 30 and now you're already noticing wrinkles?

Maybe when you relax your eyebrows that line on your forehead lingers in a way it never did. You wake up one day, and suddenly you have crow's feet.

Don't freak out, this is totally normal!

By 30, you should be noticing the beginning stages of aging. But, you can do something about it.

It's a lot easier to slow the development of wrinkles than it is to fix them later in life. If you get started with preventative care now, then at 50 you'll look a lot better than your peers who didn't.

The best way to do that is to start getting Botox or other facial injectables. You might feel that's only for older women. But, it's increasingly common for people to start getting it in their late 20's and early 30's.

Having a few wrinkles at 30 is nothing to worry about. It just means it's time to start planning ahead to slow future aging. Read on to learn how injectables can do that.

Aging 101: What's Happening to Your Skin

There are three factors that contribute to youthful, wrinkle-free skin. Elastin, collagen, and Hyaluronic Acid are natural substance your body produces on its own.

Over time, the levels of these substances decrease, causing skin to lose elasticity. When you furrow your brow and relax it, the skin doesn't snap back into place. Instead, it leaves a wrinkle.

Besides causing wrinkles, loss of these substances makes you lose fat in your face. Which sounds like a good thing at first! But, really you are losing volume around areas like your cheeks, which can cause a hollow, gaunt look.

Dermal injectables prevent and treat these signs of aging. They can even help build back some of the levels of collagen you've already lost.

Why Get Dermal Injections at 30?

Dermal injectables do a great job of smoothing even the deepest wrinkles. However, the more you have and the more pronounced they are, the harder it is to fix them. You need a greater amount of the injectables more frequently.

If you get started early, you only need very little to do the job. Plus, since you're preventing wrinkles in your 30's, you won't need as many injectables in your 60's. It's a long-term investment!

How do injectables actually prevent wrinkles? Different injectables do slightly different things. Botox, Restylane, and Juvederm are some of the most common.

Botox

One misconception about Botox is that it smoothes wrinkles by filling them. In actuality, Botox paralyzes the facial muscles where it's injected. In turn, the muscles relax so much that the wrinkle completely smoothes away.

When your mother said "don't make that face or it'll freeze that way," she wasn't totally wrong.

But, it's only true when you're older and your skin loses its elasticity. Daily frowning, laughing, and squinting makes your wrinkles more pronounced over time.

Skin is like a piece of paper. If you fold it once, it's easier to open up and smooth back out. When you fold it over and over again in the same spot, the crease becomes more defined.

With Botox, it's stopping the muscles from creasing skin over and over.

Where to Start with Botox?

Botox is one of the most popular injectables for preventing aging. It's great for the wrinkles that tend to pop up first, like forehead lines and crow's feet.

When you get started, you should start with a very small amount. You don't want to look totally different.

Plus, you can always add more. But, if you get too much, you just have to wait for it to settle, which can take a while.

To start, you probably will only need to get maintenance injections once or twice a year.

Another injectable type is Restylane and Juvederm. Depending on your aging concerns, they might be a better option for you.

Restylane and Juvederm

Unlike Botox, Restylane and Juvederm are injectable fillers.

They are Hyaluronic gels, which some people feel more comfortable with, since it's more natural. They work the same way as the Hyaluronic Acid your skin used to produce.

Hyaluronic Acid is a popular ingredient in many skin care products. It moisturizes the skin by trapping water molecules and holding on to them.

When injected, the Hyaluronic gel traps water under your skin. That causes the gel to expand like a sponge, filling wrinkles and adding volume to hollow areas.

How it Prevents Skin Aging

Like Botox, smoothing shallow wrinkles will keep them from deepening. But, these injectables do more than that to prevent aging.

Studies have shown that continued use of these fillers can create more collagen. The Hyaluronic Acid triggers collagen growth by stretching cells in your connective tissue.

Getting Restylane and Juvederm Done

Restylane and Juvederm are great for people who are noticing lines around the mouth. You can also get lip injections if you are noticing wrinkles forming there.

Restylane will give you a more natural look. It works best on medium set wrinkles, which makes it great for people in their early 30's. Juvederm does more heavy-lifting, so you might not need that yet.

These injections will work for 4-12 months, depending on the areas in the face that it's used.

In addition to injectables, there are other measures you should take to prevent aging.

Other Preventative Measures

Just because you're 30 doesn't mean it's too late to protect your skin. You've heard it a million times, but wear sunscreen every day. Injectables do nothing for age spots!

Drink lots of water, stay away from smoke, and do your best to limit stress. Do all this and someday you'll be the youngest looking 80-year-old around!
