Pop That Zit? Wait! Here's Why You Need to Stop Popping Pimples

Last Modified: August 3, 2022

In the UK, 90% of people will be affected by acne.

It is the most common skin issue, and treatments for it are as varied as the people who are affected. Popping pimples is something that many people do, but it comes with side effects that aren’t worth it.

Pimples can be painful, but the chief problem is that they are very noticeable. People are embarrassed by pimples, and this can lead to social anxiety and other problems. Don’t rush to pop them, however, there are other methods that you can use that are more effective and safer.

Popping Pimples

Pimples are caused by a lot of factors and don’t always go away as we age. A lot of what causes acne can be treated by lifestyle changes, but for some people that isn’t the case. When you take matters into your own hands and pop a pimple you breach the bodies first line of defence against infection.

Breaking the Skin

Applying pressure to a pimple causes it to pop. This can lead to a violent expulsion of the pimple, which can be both gross and also medically complicating. Skin infections and scarring are the two most common problems associated with pimple popping.

Skin Infection

Skin infections come in a vast array of types and symptoms. By weakening your bodies defence against infection, you offer up a place for infection to set in, where the pimple used to be. This can lead to even greater scarring and disfiguring than you would normally experience with acne.

Scarring

Scarring is caused by the devastating eruption of the skin that occurs when you pop a pimple. The associated risk of skin infection only worsens this possibility. These marks will last a lifetime and often take the form of craters or pits in the skin.

Modern Treatments for Acne

Minimising the damage to the skin while still removing the pimple is critical. Micro-needling and peels are a modern approach to removing pimples and preventing them from coming back. Micro-needling doesn’t cause pervasive skin damage, and peels will help keep pores clear and free of pimples.

Micro-needling is not the same as shoving a store-bought needle into your skin. It relies on advanced medical equipment and techniques to be done. Don’t just shove a needle into your pimple, as this could lead to an even greater risk of infection.

Taking Care of Your Skin

People are judged by their appearance. This is true in the modern world, and it has been true throughout history. Make sure that you protect your appearance and the health of your skin by getting professional help if you are experiencing acne. Don’t risk infection or scarring by popping pimples.

If you have a severe case, it may be more appropriate to seek out medication. If you are struggling with random pimples, however, having them removed the right way is the best course of action. Take the health and cleanliness of your skin seriously and reduce the chance that you will have issues with pimple popping in the future.
